John’s recording career began in 1945 with the original cast recording of Carousel. His first solo album, Songs of the Open Road, followed in 1947. His series of original cast and studio recordings started continued Three Wishes for Jamie, two songs from the MGM film Because You’re Mine, The Pajama Game (stage and screen versions), Annie Get Your Gun (TV soundtrack), No Man Can Tame Me (TV soundrack), Showboat, Oklahoma!, Carousel (revival), and Jekyll & Hyde. His other solo albums are Highlights of Broadway, Mediterranean Magic, Under Open Skies, Songs the Kids Brought Home from Camp, and The Giant, plus a collaboration with Lionel Hampton on the songs Ebb Tide and Love is a Many-Splendored Thing. His final recording, John Raitt Broadway Legend, earned him a 1996 Grammy Award nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal.
